Man Charged with Additional Offences in Rochdale Child Sexual Exploitation Investigation

Rochdale — A 54-year-old man has been charged with further offences as part of an ongoing investigation into non-recent child sexual exploitation in Rochdale.

Tahir Rashid, currently on remand, was initially charged in May 2023 with 13 offences, including rape and penetrative sexual activity with girls under the age of 16. He is scheduled to stand trial for these alleged offences in September this year.

Rashid, of Hudsons Walk, Rochdale, has now been charged with eight additional offences by detectives working on Operation Lytton, the probe led by Greater Manchester Police targeting historic child sexual abuse cases, police confirmed on Friday, June 27.

The new charges include further allegations of rape and indecent assault involving a girl under 16.

Rashid is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 23, in connection with the latest charges.

Greater Manchester Police continue to appeal for anyone with information related to Operation Lytton to come forward as the investigation progresses.
