Driver Arrested After Early Morning Crash Shuts Road and Tram Line in Rochdale

Rochdale, Greater Manchester – A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving after a single-vehicle crash caused significant disruption in Rochdale town centre early on Friday morning.

Emergency services were dispatched to Drake Street at approximately 4:50 AM on Friday, September 12th, following reports of a collision.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that one vehicle was involved in the incident, which prompted the immediate closure of a busy road and a short section of the Metrolink network in Rochdale town centre.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing injury by careless driving. Police have since confirmed that no life-threatening or life-changing injuries were reported as a result of the crash.

The incident led to the closure of Drake Street in both directions between Water Street and Oldham Road for more than an hour as emergency crews responded.

Public transport was also affected, with the Metrolink line suspended between the Rochdale town centre and Rochdale railway station stops.

Both the road and the tram line were fully reopened later on Friday morning, allowing traffic and services to return to normal.
