Rochdale Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Child Victim Sexual Offences
A 23-year-old man from Rochdale has been jailed for 13 years and six months after admitting a series of horrific sexual offences against children. Omar Saif appeared at Manchester Crown Court, where he was also handed an extended five-year licence period upon release.
Saif pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of sexual activity with a child under 16, six counts of sexual communication with a child, two counts of inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity, blackmail, and making indecent images of children. The images recovered included 44 Category A (the most severe classification), six Category B, and 105 Category C files.
Grooming and Assault Uncovered
Saif was arrested in September 2023 after the parent of a 14-year-old girl reported that he had lured her to a secluded area near an allotment in Rochdale and sexually assaulted her. Following his arrest, he remained in custody throughout the investigation.
The case was handled by Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Complex Safeguarding Team, which specialises in child exploitation cases. Officers examined Saif’s mobile phones, uncovering a significant volume of messages with girls aged between 13 and 17. Police revealed that much of the communication was sexual in nature.
Chilling Grooming Tactics
Investigators found that Saif:
When arrested, Saif made repeated attempts to hide his electronic devices, which detectives said proved he was fully aware his actions were criminal.
Nationwide Impact
Police and partner agencies identified 105 potential victims across the country. While some did not wish to participate in the court process, authorities were still able to proceed in cases where documentary evidence confirmed the victims' ages at the time of the offences.
