Suspects Arrested as Police Smash ‘Sophisticated’ Cannabis Farms in Dawn Raids Across Rochdale

Rochdale, Greater Manchester – Several people are reported to have been in custody following a series of co-ordinated dawn raids across the Rochdale district, where Greater Manchester Police uncovered three 'sophisticated' cannabis farms.

In a massive show of force involving more than 50 officers, police executed warrants at several addresses. The operation targeted properties in Heywood, Middleton, and Newhey following months of meticulous planning and intelligence gathering.

GMP confirmed that "dozens" of cannabis plants were seized during the raids, alongside a significant amount of specialized cultivation equipment.

A number of men and women had been taken into custody for questioning. The arrests cover a wide range of suspected criminal activity:

Cultivation of Cannabis and Abstracting Electricity: A 33-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested. In a separate search, a 61-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were also detained on the same charges.
Drug Supply: A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, while a 28-year-old man was held on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs.
Stolen Property: In a related arrest, a 78-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of handling stolen property.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police stated that the operation was part of a continued crackdown on organised crime and drug production within the borough. The use of 'sophisticated' setups often involves the illegal bypassing of electricity meters, which police warn creates a significant fire risk to neighbouring properties.

All individuals remained in police custody. Detectives have confirmed that enquiries are ongoing and have thanked the local community for providing the vital intelligence that led to the raids.
