Middleton Crash: Driver Bailed After Two Teenage Boys Seriously Injured in E-Bike Collision

Police have issued an update after a driver was arrested following a serious crash in Middleton that left two young boys in hospital.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care and attention. In an update released on Friday morning, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that he has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 PM on Monday, September 28th, at the junction of Windermere Road and Wood Street. Emergency services, including police and paramedics, rushed to the scene following reports of a collision involving a car and an electric bike.

Two boys, aged 13 and 14, suffered serious injuries in the crash. Both teenagers were treated at the scene before being rushed to the hospital for further medical attention.

A police cordon was immediately put in place, and the road remained closed for several hours on Monday night to allow specialist officers to carry out investigations. Images from the scene showed evidence markers placed on the road within the taped-off area.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and is appealing to the public for information.

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone who may have video footage from the area at the time of the incident, to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or via the LiveChat function on the Greater Manchester Police website, quoting log number 3478 of September 28th, 2026. Alternatively, reports can be made anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
