Rochdale Set to Reap Benefits from New UK-EU Trade Deal, Says MP Waugh
Rochdale, UK - Rochdale is poised to experience a significant economic boost thanks to the newly agreed UK-EU trade deal, according to local MP Paul Waugh. Waugh highlighted the potential for lowered bills, increased job opportunities, and strengthened border security, while also making it easier for residents to travel to Europe.
Waugh emphasised the positive impact the deal will have on Rochdale's numerous supermarkets, businesses, and families. He specifically pointed to the reduction in red tape that had previously hampered trade, particularly impacting businesses operating between the UK mainland and Northern Ireland.
"Rochdale is proud to host one of ASDA's largest distribution centres in the country, serving both the North West and Northern Ireland," Waugh stated. He recalled a recent visit to the ASDA facility where staff recounted instances of trucks being turned away at Ulster ports due to complex post-Brexit regulations, citing a specific example involving custard.
The new trade deal aims to adding billions to the British economy, streamlining the process for goods moving between the UK and the EU, and, "end that farce", in shipping and logistics. Waugh believes the agreement will significantly benefit businesses like ASDA and, in turn, positively impact the local Rochdale community.
