Vandalism Forces Heywood Church to Close After Heavy Damage Caused
Trinity Methodist Church in Heywood was targeted by vandals in the early hours of Thursday morning, August 14th. Church members were left shocked and heartbroken to discover a scene of widespread destruction when they arrived later that day.
Intruders wreaked havoc throughout the building, tearing down a large section of the ceiling and smashing multiple doors. Cupboards were ransacked with their contents strewn across floors, and the church's plumbing system was deliberately damaged, leading to further issues.
The incident was immediately reported to the police, who have confirmed they are investigating the break-in and act of criminal damage.
As a result of the extensive damage and the need for significant repairs, the church has had to make the difficult decision to suspend all activities. A spokesperson for the church confirmed that regular services and all community group sessions, which are a vital resource for many local residents, will be cancelled until further notice.
The closure is expected to last for at least three weeks while the damage is assessed and corrective work takes place.
