Body Recovered from River at Healey Dell Nature Reserve
Rochdale – Emergency services have recovered the body of a man from the River Spodden at a popular nature reserve near Rochdale.
Police, paramedics, and firefighters were called to Healey Dell from approximately 9:40 AM on Friday.
A significant emergency response was deployed to the beauty spot, located near the historic Healey Dell viaduct. A section of the riverbank was cordoned off to allow rescue and recovery teams to work safely.
Tragically, Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that a body was recovered from the river.
By Friday afternoon, the entrance to the park—situated on the corner of Market Street and Shawclough Road near Whitworth—remained taped off. A police vehicle was stationed at the scene to maintain the cordon while investigations continued.
The Healey Dell viaduct and surrounding woodland are a well-known beauty spot in the Rochdale area, popular with walkers and tourists. The closure of the park entrance caused some disruption to visitors.
