Drug Dealer Shot in Arm by Police During Whitefield Arrest Jailed for Nearly Seven Years
A drug dealer who was shot in the arm by armed police during a dramatic arrest in Greater Manchester has been jailed for six years and ten months.
Lewis Hanson, 20, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday, August 27th, after pleading guilty to a string of serious drug and firearm offences.
Hanson, of no fixed address, admitted possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, possession of a prohibited firearm, conspiracy to supply a firearm, possession of ammunition, and being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.
The court heard that on Friday, May 22nd, officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious and Organised Crime Group were monitoring Hanson’s movements. He was observed driving a white Cupra Ateca around Radcliffe, Whitefield, and Greenmount, repeatedly returning to an address in Chapelfield.
During their surveillance, officers witnessed Hanson meeting with several individuals in activities consistent with drug dealing.
At around 3:00 PM, police moved in to intercept the Cupra on Bury New Road in Whitefield. As Hanson attempted to evade arrest, an armed officer discharged a single shot, striking him in the arm.
Hanson was detained at the scene and transported to the hospital. Police later confirmed that his injury was neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
Following the arrest, officers executed a search warrant at the Chapelfield address. Inside, they recovered a converted Retay Model 17 blank-firing pistol, which is strictly prohibited under the Firearms Act. Ammunition for the weapon was found hidden inside a black bin bag in a bedroom wardrobe.
In addition to the firearm, officers seized a significant quantity of Class A and B drugs, alongside drug packaging paraphernalia including scales, vacuum-packed bags, and empty snap bags.
Hanson has now begun his custodial sentence of 82 months.
