Rochdale Sex Offender Deported to Pakistan

Rochdale, UK - A convicted sex offender from Rochdale has been deported to Pakistan, police have confirmed. Kashif Mahmood, 37, was removed from the UK on June 1st after serving part of his sentence for online child sex offences.

Mahmood was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court on February 10th of this year. He admitted charges of attempted sexual communication with a child, arranging/facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, and attempting to meet a child following grooming.

The North West Regional Organised Crime Unit (NWROCU) confirmed the deportation, stating they worked closely with the Home Office to ensure the relevant immigration paperwork was served.

The court heard that Mahmood lied about his age in order to meet up with who he believed was a 13-year-old girl. He was apprehended by police at Manchester Piccadilly railway station with condoms in his possession. He had engaged in sexual communication with the social media account, posing as a 25-year-old and expressing desires to "kiss and cuddle" and suggesting further intimacy. Mahmood had requested the child's location and suggested meeting up after initially attempting to befriend her.

Upon arriving at the train station to potentially meet the individual he believed to be a teenager, Mahmood, formerly of Royds Street, Rochdale, was located in his locked car by police. He was observed 'desperately trying to remove content from his mobile phone' before the car windows were smashed.

In addition to his prison sentence, Mahmood was made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Judge Jason MacAdam, who sentenced Mahmood, dismissed his claim to a probation service officer that the offending was a "silly mistake" as "nonsense." The Judge highlighted the grooming behaviour and the planning of a meeting with someone he knew asserted to be a 13-year-old girl.

Judge MacAdam stated, "In June, using Snapchat, you communicated with a person that made it clear she was 13 years of age. You groomed her, making reference to the two of you being intimate and arranged to meet at Piccadilly.

"You claimed you're dyslexic and that a photo made her look older. If all that is the case, then why would you tell her not to tell her mother who she was meeting? When you were arrested you were found to have two condoms in your pocket.

"The evidence against you is overwhelming from the communications you sent".

Detective Constable Adam Cronshaw from NWROCU emphasised the significance of the deportation. "This deportation sends a clear message that those who seek to harm children will not only face justice in the UK but will also be removed from our communities," he said.

"Mahmood was not a UK national, so we worked closely with the Home Office to ensure he was deported following his conviction. We will continue to work with national and international partners to protect children and hold offenders accountable."
