Pub in Wardle Evacuated as Fire Rips Through Roof

Rochdale, Greater Manchester – A popular pub in Rochdale was evacuated on Tuesday evening after a fire broke out in its roof, prompting a major response from emergency services.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to a commercial property on Halifax Road in Wardle just before 8 PM on Tuesday, December 2nd. The building is understood to be the Green Gate pub.

Upon arrival, fire crews were met with a significant blaze, with flames visible through the roof and thick smoke billowing from the building.

Greater Manchester Police quickly established a cordon, shutting down a section of Halifax Road to allow firefighters to safely tackle the incident. Crowds of concerned local residents watched on as fire crews worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control.

Eyewitnesses could describe seeing firefighters scale the building with ladders, using high-pressure hoses to douse the flames that had taken hold of the roof structure.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that three fire engines attended the scene. The extent of the damage to the pub will be an upsetting ordeal for locals and this is a much loved pub.
