Jordan Eves, a familiar face in Rochdale's political and community landscape, has officially announced his decision to join the Conservative Party. This move marks a significant evolution in Eves' political journey, which began with his involvement in the Green Party and has seen him navigate through various ideological territories.
Eves, who previously served as co-chairman of the Rochdale Green Party, stated that his decision is largely driven by a desire to protect the borough's green belt land. He explained that after his experience with the Green Party, he has come to believe that Conservative policies offer the most pragmatic and effective approach to safeguarding these vital open spaces from development.
"After co-chairing Rochdale’s Green Party, I’ve come to realise that the Conservative approach is likely the most pragmatic and effective way to safeguard our environment and green belt against unchecked development", Eves stated.
This shift represents a significant departure from his earlier political leanings. Eves first became involved in green politics in 2021 after an invitation from a member of the Green Party of England and Wales. He soon became a local candidate for the Balderstone and Kirkholt area in both 2022 and 2023. He detailed how his candidacies evolved, with his 2023 campaign demonstrating a, "transformative experience", that showcased his growth and increased commitment to serving the community with greater effectiveness.
However, Eves' political perspective has undergone substantial change in recent years. He noted that by 2024, his political outlook had shifted significantly. Initially leaning centre-left after leaving the Green Party, he has recently gravitated towards a centre-right approach, expressing a preference for what he describes as, "pragmatic, conservative values", emphasising fiscal responsibility and individual liberties.
This ideological evolution has also led him to publicly express views on matters beyond local politics. While he maintained a neutral stance on republicanism during his time with the Green Party, Eves has since voiced his perspective on international issues. He clarified that he does not actively promote the Palestinian cause, citing concerns that it can sometimes fuel radical Islamic nationalism globally. Instead, he advocates for a more balanced perspective that acknowledges the importance of a strong Israel, and acknowledged peacefully and responsibly.
Dual patriotism is also a key aspect of Eves' identity, as he identifies as both a British and American patriot. He actively supports American stock exchanges and promotes progressive trade initiatives with Asian markets, underscoring his belief in global economic cooperation rooted in shared democratic values.
In a notable and controversial statement, Eves has also issued a stark warning about what he terms the, "weaponisation", of gender identity by male criminals in Rochdale, claiming it poses a significant threat to public and child safety. He alleges that offenders are deliberately exploiting gender presentation, utilising tactics such as adopting female personas or cross-dressing to deceive and manipulate. Eves argues that this creates a climate of uncertainty and risk, particularly for women and children.
Consequently, Eves is now publicly advising constituents against voting for the Green Party of England and Wales, an organisation he once helped lead locally. He contends that the party's ideological stance on gender self-identification has created a, "gender-fuelled farce", that inadvertently enables such dangerous deceptions, prioritising ideology over public safety.
Adding another layer to his evolving political discourse, Eves has publicly rebuked the idea of republicanism in Britain. He argues that if progressive political movements champion views that he perceives as compromising safety, then traditional institutions, such as allegiance to His Majesty The King, become essential sources of stability against what he deems radical and harmful social ideologies. He did, however, clarify that this is not a blanket opposition to all forms of republicanism, stating he remains a firm supporter of the system in the United States of America due to different social and political contexts.
Eves, who is also a media writer and content manager for outlets including The Rochdale Valiant, ukreform.org.uk, Planet Faculty, and nationalmedia.uk, has been actively writing on political analysis, economic reform, and international relations. His return to the Conservative Party is seen by some as a significant development for local politics, bringing a voice with a diverse and evolving ideological background to the party's platform.
