Community in Shock After Three Seriously Injured in New Year's Day Attack Outside Pub

Middleton, Greater Manchester – A tight-knit community has been left reeling after a violent outbreak outside a popular pub in the early hours of New Year's Day left three people with serious injuries.

Police and emergency services were called to Manchester Old Road in Rhodes at approximately 1:30 AM on Thursday, January 1st, following reports of a serious assault.

The incident occurred in the car park of a shopping precinct on Chapel Street, directly in front of The Carters Arms pub. A police cordon remains in place at the scene, which has been the focus of an extensive forensic investigation throughout the day.

According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), two men and a woman were attacked and sustained serious injuries. The victims have been identified as a man in his 20s, a man in his 60s, and a woman in her 30s. All three were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Witnesses at the scene earlier reported seeing two blue forensic tents set up within the cordoned-off area, indicating the scale of the police investigation. While the tents have since been removed, the cordon remains as officers continue to gather evidence.

In a significant development, police have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. He is currently in custody being questioned by detectives.

GMP has stated that, at this stage, there is no suggestion that a knife or any other weapon was used during the alleged assault.

Detectives are now appealing to the public for any information that could assist their investigation. They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident in the car park or any relevant events that took place inside the pub beforehand.

The police have launched a full investigation and have already made an arrest. They are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police by calling 101 or using the Live Chat service on the Greater Manchester Police website, quoting log number 3529 of 31/12/2025.

Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
