Littleborough’s Beloved Community Events Organisers Call Out For More Volunteers

Littleborough — The future of some of the Littleborough’s most cherished community events is under threat, organisers have warned, as a shortage of volunteers puts this year’s programme in jeopardy.

The Littleborough Events and Associations Forum (LEAF), the group behind major town events including the Rushbearing festival, food and drink festival, and the christmas lights switch-on, says its current volunteer base is now too small to cope with demand.

Without a significant increase in new volunteers, the organisation has warned that this year’s programme could face serious cuts, with some events potentially scaled back or cancelled altogether.

To make it easier for residents to get involved, LEAF has published a detailed list of specific roles, breaking down exactly what help is needed. Tasks range from event-day support to background planning and logistics, with organisers stressing that even small time commitments can make a big difference.

A Call to Action

The full list of opportunities is now available online via the Littleborough events and associations forum page on LittleboroughLocal: https://www.littleboroughlocal.co.uk/p/littleborough-events-and-associations.html

In a further bid to engage the community, LEAF is also encouraging residents to attend its next meeting, set to take place on Wednesday 4th February at 7:45 PM at Hare Hill House.

Organisers have made a direct appeal: unless several key positions are filled before that meeting, some events may have to be scaled back or cancelled. The warning extends beyond the main festivals — volunteers supporting events at Hare Hill Park say shortages could also impact future plans for 2026, with further appeals expected later this year.

LEAF is urging anyone who has enjoyed Littleborough’s events in the past, or has thought about getting involved but never knew how, to consider stepping forward now.
