Rochdale Welcomes 210 New Trees as SUEZ Exceeds Greater Manchester Planting Goal

Rochdale, Greater Manchester — A team of volunteers from waste and recycling firm SUEZ has planted 210 new trees in Rochdale, marking a significant milestone in their environmental pledge to the region.

On Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, ten SUEZ staff members joined forces with environmental organisation City of Trees to plant the native saplings near Healey Foundation Primary School. The activity forms part of SUEZ’s social value commitment to the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, under which the company operates Rochdale’s household waste recycling centre.

The planting session has pushed SUEZ beyond its annual target. Since 2019, the company has pledged to plant 200 trees each year across Greater Manchester. This latest effort not only surpasses the 2025 target but brings SUEZ’s total contribution to the region to over 1,700 trees.

The new trees—selected in coordination with City of Trees for their suitability to the local environment—will provide a range of ecological benefits. They are expected to help improve air quality, support wildlife habitats, and absorb carbon, while also playing a role in managing surface water in the area.

Councillor Tricia Ayrton, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate change and environment at Rochdale Borough Council, welcomed the contribution, noting the positive impact on local green spaces and climate resilience.

The initiative highlights a continued partnership between corporate volunteers and local environmental organisations, working to expand tree cover and biodiversity across the region.
