Persistent Nuisance and Anti-Social Behaviour on Bury Street Ends as Occupancy of Heywood Flat Shut Down

Heywood, Greater Manchester – A residential property on Bury Street has been reclaimed by housing authorities following a court-ordered eviction, bringing an end to a destructive span of criminal activity and anti-social behaviour that had terrorised the residential building block, and unsuspecting neighbours.

A Neighbourhood in Distress

The trouble began almost immediately after a new tenant moved into the address. Locals soon found themselves living in an environment marred by constant disturbance. Narratives from neighbours described a continuous presence of of visitors entering the flat. The premises, which quickly became a focal point for illicit drug use, even saw discarded paraphernalia, such as used needles, littering the street and near to nearby neighbouring homes.

Life on the street became increasingly volatile, with residents reporting frequent physical altercations, loud outbursts, and aggressive music. The building itself suffered significant vandalism, including smashed windows and a repeatedly damaged front entrance.

Police Involvement and Legal Infractions

The occupant’s behaviour caught the eye of law enforcement on several occasions. The tenant was notably arrested while at a separate location—a property that was already under a police-enforced closure order.

Further complicating matters, it was discovered that the tenant was harbouring her partner at the flat, a direct violation of a restraining order that prohibited him from having any contact with her or approaching the residence. This also constituted a clear breach of a housing exclusion notice.

Attempts at Resolution

Housing officials emphasised that legal action was the final option. Before moving to evict, agencies attempted to intervene by offering support and guidance to the tenant. When these efforts failed, authorities tried to manage the situation by barring problematic visitors from the area. While this led to a short reprieve, the tenant quickly returned to her previous habits, causing the disorder to escalate once more.

Court-Ordered Possession

The situation reached its breaking point on March 26th. Although the tenant had indicated she would attend court, she was a no-show. The presiding judge reviewed a extensive record of misconduct, which included consistent anti-social behaviour and a growing pile of unpaid rent.

In her absence, the court issued a possession order, terminating the tenancy immediately and allowing the authorities to secure the building. A housing spokesperson stated that the eviction serves as a stern warning that endangering the safety and peace of the community will not be overlooked.

Cleanup and restoration efforts are expected to undergo progress to repair the property and restore a sense of normalcy to the residents of Bury Street.

Meanwhile, similar events seem to unfurl at Stoneyvale Court and Queens Drive in Rochdale, involving nuisance tenants making life difficult for others and receiving warnings.
