Promotion-Winning Coach Jimmy McNulty Leaves Rochdale for League One Stockport County

Rochdale AFC has confirmed the departure of Head Coach Jimmy McNulty, who leaves the club to join League One side Stockport County following a highly successful spell that saw him lead Dale back into the EFL.

The club announced McNulty's departure at the start of summer, expressing profound gratitude for his significant contribution, not only as head coach but also during his extensive playing career at Spotland. In a statement, Rochdale AFC praised McNulty's instrumental role in a season culminating in promotion via the National League play-offs.

McNulty, who spent eleven years at Spotland across various roles, released an open letter to supporters following his departure, reflecting on his long tenure and achievements. He thanked Chairman Cameron Ogden and the board for their unwavering support, and paid tribute to the dedicated fanbase, as well as the club's staff and players, whom he described as, "central to the achievements of recent years".

Despite the departure of their promotion-winning coach, Rochdale AFC reassured fans that preparations for a managerial succession have been well underway since securing their return to the EFL. The club confirmed that several candidates have already been identified, with discussions progressing. An appointment is expected ahead of the new League Two campaign, ensuring a smooth transition for the upcoming season.

While Stockport County prepares for continued performances in League One, Rochdale AFC will begin their new season back in League Two, aiming to build on the strong foundations laid by McNulty and his team.
