Greater Manchester Men Among 10 Charged Over Three-Year-Old Stoke-on-Trent House Fire

STOKE-ON-TRENT – Ten men, including two from Greater Manchester, have been charged in connection with a serious house fire in Stoke-on-Trent more than three years ago, in which a woman and a teenager were seriously injured.

Staffordshire Police confirmed today, Wednesday, May 7th, that charges have been laid following a lengthy investigation into the blaze on Beverley Drive, in the Bentilee area of the city, on December 16, 2021.


Emergency services, including police and firefighters, were called to the scene on the evening of the fire. A 31-year-old woman and a 13-year-old were both taken to hospital with serious injuries resulting from the incident.

Following the investigation, the force has now charged ten men. Among them are Shakil Uddin, aged 22 and of Oldham, and Muhammed Sufyaan-Shah, aged 24 and of Rochdale, both located in Greater Manchester.

Shakil Uddin, Muhammed Sufyaan-Shah, along with Haris Mahmood, 20, of Brinsford young offender institution; Tayyeb Majeed, 23, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent; Lukman Khan, 23, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent; and Riyadh Iqbal, 22, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, have each been charged with two counts of attempted murder, arson with intent to endanger life, and arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

Ali Abbas, aged 22, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, has been charged with the same counts of attempted murder and arson offences, as well as additional charges of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Naveed Hussain, aged 31, of Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, has been charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Kashif Ahmed, aged 24, of Abbey Hulton, Stoke-on-Trent, and Bilal Ahmed, aged 26, of Normacot, Stoke-on-Trent, have both been charged with violent disorder.

All ten men are scheduled to appear before magistrates at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Monday, June 9th.
