Authorities revealed that a mother and her young child were asleep inside the home at the time of the attack. It is believed that the car alarm, triggered by the intense heat and flames, was instrumental in waking the occupants, allowing them to escape to safety with their pets.

Detectives are treating the incident as a deliberate act and have released further details, emphasising the severity of the attack. The vehicle used by the perpetrator is believed to have arrived from the direction of Hollingworth Road and departed the same way.

While miraculously no one sustained physical injuries, the family has been left, "shaken and deeply affected", by the traumatic experience.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of stalking and conspiracy to commit arson in connection with the incident. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Investigators are now seeking to identify and speak with the owner and/or occupants of a vehicle, for which an image has been released, as they believe this vehicle could hold crucial information.

Officers would like to speak to the owner of this vehicle.

The police are urging residents and individuals who were in the Cleggswood Avenue area around the time of the incident to review any available CCTV footage, doorbell camera recordings, or dashcam footage from September 6th. Even the smallest detail could prove invaluable to the investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101 or via their Live Chat service at gmp.police.uk, quoting log number 205 of 06/09/25.
