Free and Low-Cost Fun for Families at Rochdale Town Hall This Half Term

Rochdale, Greater Manchester – Residents of the borough are encouraged to bring their children to Rochdale Town Hall for a series of engaging, affordable events scheduled for the upcoming February school break.

The program, which runs from Saturday, February 14th through Saturday, February 22nd, features a diverse lineup of performances, interactive workshops, and hands-on activities designed to entertain young people throughout the holiday. The week’s festivities will reach their peak on Tuesday, February 17th, with a major family fun day.

A Week of Exploration and Enjoyment

Set within the iconic surroundings of the town hall, visitors can participate in a wide array of activities. The itinerary is packed with creative arts and crafts, storytelling sessions, circus skills training, and interactive games.

Key highlights of the week include:

Veg Nannies: Gardening-inspired sessions tailored for children interested in horticulture.
Fun & Games: Playful games in the Great Hall by Your Trust.
Storytelling: The early years team brings storytelling for the youngest.
Wildlife Focus: Educational nature stalls operated by the RSPB.
Circus Spectacle: Dynamic performances by Skylight Circus held in the Great Hall.
RDA Slopes Project Workshop: Learn biodiversity and archaeology.
Community Partners: Pop-in sessions featuring representatives from the Rochdale Pioneers Museum and the SEND team.
Arts & Crafts: Boosting kids' creativity.

Additionally, the beloved tape measure trail will return for the duration of the week. This self-guided activity encourages families to navigate the building, uncovering fascinating facts about its history and architectural details along the way.

Focus on Accessibility and Inclusivity

Event organisers have prioritised ease of access. The majority of activities operate on a drop-in basis, eliminating the need for prior reservations. However, for the main Fun Day on February 17th, a specific ‘quiet hour’ will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This slot provides a more relaxed atmosphere for families who would benefit from a quieter environment. Spaces for the quiet hour are limited and require advance booking.

Affordable Eating Options

To assist families with refreshments, several low-cost food and drink options will be available on-site:

Tuesday Fun Day: The Zodiac Suite will serve refreshments, including adult options like cakes, bakes, and sandwiches, as well as children’s lunch boxes priced at just £3.95.
All Week: The Martlet Kitchen is running a, "Kids Eat for £1", promotion. Families can buy up to two children’s meals for £1 each with the purchase of every adult main meal.

Bridging the Gap to Culture

These half-term activities are part of a broader council initiative to make cultural venues more welcoming and accessible to local families. By providing free and low-cost entertainment within a historic landmark, Rochdale Town Hall aims to garner community connection during the school holidays.

For bookings regarding the quiet hour or to request a detailed schedule of events, families are encouraged to reach out to Rochdale Town Hall directly.
