Five Arrested, Drugs Seized Following Violent Car Ramming Incident Around Rochdale Borough

Rochdale, Heywood, and Middleton, Greater Manchester, UK – Police have arrested five men and seized drugs following a violent incident in North-East Greater Manchester last Sunday that saw two cars intentionally rammed and one pursued. Warrants were executed across Rochdale, Heywood, and Middleton early Thursday morning as part of the ongoing investigation.

The disturbance initially unfolded on Sunday, April 5th, shortly after 10 PM, on Prospect Street. Police were called to reports of aggressive driving involving a white BMW 1 Series car and a grey Audi A3. The vehicles were driven deliberately into each other, escalating into a confrontation where occupants of the Audi were believed to be in possession of weapons and pursued the BMW. One person in the BMW sustained minor injuries.

Both vehicles subsequently fled the scene, only to be found abandoned later on Hind Hill Street and Aragon Drive in Heywood.

A swift police response led to the arrest of one suspect on the evening of the incident itself, on suspicion of violent disorder. This individual has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Following extensive investigations, five additional suspects were identified. In the early hours of Thursday, April 9th, officers from Greater Manchester Police carried out warrants at three addresses across Rochdale, Heywood, and Middleton. Four men, all aged in their 20s, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. Significantly, two of these men were also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, indicating a potential wider criminal element.

A fifth suspect remains outstanding, and police enquiries are ongoing to locate them.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police emphasised the force's zero-tolerance stance on such behaviour and re-iterated that their priority remains the safety of the public.

The investigation continues, and police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.
