Man Hospitalised and Road Closed Following Multi-Vehicle Collision in Middleton
Middleton, Greater Manchester – Middleton's Long Street became the scene of a serious multi-vehicle crash on Monday evening, prompting an emergency response, resulting in injuries to two individuals, and causing a prolonged closure of the thoroughfare.
Uniformed officers, and fire rescue personnel rapidly converged on the site after around 6:25 PM on Monday, April 6th. Their deployment followed initial reports detailing a collision that initially appeared to involve two automobiles and a motorbike.
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the dispatch of one fire engine from Blackley. Fire crews spent time securing the location by isolating the power systems of the vehicles implicated in the crash.
Paramedics performed on-site evaluations for four individuals. It's understood that a male and a female suffered injuries during the impact. One man was later transported to a local medical facility for further examination, though his condition is currently assessed as non-critical and not severe.
Witness accounts from the scene described the primary components of the incident as a motorcycle, a white Mercedes-Benz, and a third, previously parked, automobile. Furthermore, a bus for public transport was noted near to the incident, though its direct involvement in the actual collision has not yet been verified by investigators.
The thoroughfare of Long Street remained impassable in both directions for numerous hours, facilitating the work of the emergency responders and the subsequent removal of wreckage. This extended closure led to considerable traffic congestion across the wider Middleton vicinity, with motorists being re-routed via alternative paths.
Law enforcement personnel maintained a presence at the location late into the evening to supervise the extraction of the compromised vehicles. Authorities have not announced any detentions related to this occurrence.
