Fireworks and Disorder Mark Tributes After Teen's Tragic Death in Middleton
Middleton, Greater Manchester – Hundreds of youths gathered on the Langley estate in Middleton on Tuesday night, setting off fireworks and prompting police calls for 'disorder,' following the tragic death of 15-year-old Devon Simmonds in a collision.
Devon Simmonds lost his life after a crash involving an e-bike and a car on Rowrah Crescent. In response to his passing, a large gathering formed on Tuesday, July 22nd, with attendees paying tribute to the teenager.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to reports of 'disorder' on the Langley estate that night. Four fire crews were also in attendance at the scene.
A poignant memorial has since emerged outside shuttered shops on a precinct in Longthwaite Close, adorned with flowers, balloons, and candles left in tribute to the teenager.
The gathering continued into Wednesday afternoon, July 23rd, where dozens of youths remained at the precinct. Some individuals were observed spraying graffiti onto the walls in the area. GMP confirmed their presence at the scene overnight following the initial reports of disorder.
