Driver Crashes into Middleton Office Building After Suspected Medical Episode

Middleton, UK – October 28th, 2025 – A car has smashed into the front of the Hampton House office building on the Oldham Road/Assheton Way roundabout on Tuesday morning, in an incident believed to be the result of a medical episode suffered by the driver.

The collision, which occurred shortly after 9:15 AM, caused significant damage to the building's facade. A substantial emergency response was immediately dispatched, with police officers, paramedics, and firefighters converging on the scene.

Office workers from Hampton House, which reportedly accommodates staff from multiple companies, were seen observing the unfolding situation as emergency services worked to free the driver from the vehicle.

Firefighters from Oldham and Chadderton, supported by the technical rescue unit from Leigh, successfully extricated a woman from the car using specialist cutting equipment. She was then transferred into the care of the North West Ambulance Service and taken to hospital for assessment of her injuries.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their attendance, stating, "Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment to rescue one woman from the vehicle before handing them to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service. Crews ensured the safety of the site alongside the local authority and were in attendance for around one hour and 20 minutes".

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that road closures were in effect to manage the incident. Assheton Way has been closed between the roundabout where the crash occurred and the Eastway/Long Street/Market Place roundabout, leading to significant traffic delays in the surrounding area.

The exact nature of the driver's medical episode and the extent of her injuries are not yet known, but she is currently receiving medical attention. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
