Rochdale Launched 'Get Ready With Teddy' Campaign to Help Children Prepare for School

Rochdale, Greater Manchester – Families across the borough are being encouraged to join a new initiative designed to give children the best possible start to their education. Rochdale Borough Council has officially launched the, "Get Ready With Teddy", campaign, a program focused on building the confidence and essential skills of youngsters due to start reception this September.

The campaign aims to ensure that every child enters the classroom feeling prepared, independent, and ready to learn. By focusing on key developmental areas—such as communication, physical coordination, and the ability to build relationships—the initiative seeks to ease the transition from home or nursery into a formal school setting.

As a heart-warming centrepiece of the campaign, every child starting reception will receive their very own teddy bear. The council hopes these furry companions will act as a source of comfort and a, "transition buddy", for children as they navigate the big step into primary school.

The initiative builds upon existing work within local early years settings, but it also places a significant focus on inclusivity. Organisers are particularly keen to reach families whose children are not currently attending a nursery or pre-school, ensuring no child is left behind regardless of their current childcare arrangements.

The campaign was officially kicked off with a, "Teddy Saturday", launch event on Saturday, April 25th, held at selected Best Start family hubs across the borough. Following the successful launch, a wider program of activities is set to begin on Monday, April 27th.

These sessions, hosted at the borough’s family hubs, will provide practical support for parents and children alike. Activities are designed to help youngsters establish healthy routines and improve their social skills in group settings, which are vital for a positive experience in the reception year.

A spokesperson for the council highlighted that the campaign is about more than just academic readiness; it is about fostering the emotional wellbeing and self-reliance children need to thrive in a new environment.

Families interested in participating or looking for more information on session locations and schedules are encouraged to visit the Rochdale Borough Council website or contact their local Best Start family hub.
